Well, if you ever had any doubts that neocons, Tea Partiers and the Republican party are doing their damnedest to drag us back into a medieval, feudalist society, this should put those doubts well and truly to rest.

With the bill in the Iowa legislature to abolish restrictions on child labor, the bill currently making its way through the Wisconsin legislature to abolish ALL collective bargaining rights, and now the ability of creditors to have debtors thrown in jail – about to be codifed into law in Connecticut, we can all read Charles Dickens’ novels and recognize that the conditions described could soon describe the United States of America in the 21st Century.

Aren’t you glad you live in a conservative-dominated country?  Don’t you wish everyone did?



Welcome to Debtors’ Prison, 2011 Edition


Some lawmakers, judges and regulators are trying to rein in the debt-collection industry’s use of arrest warrants to recoup money owed by borrowers who are behind on credit-card payments, auto loans and other bills.

More than a third of all U.S. states allow borrowers who can’t or won’t pay to be jailed. Judges have signed off on more than 5,000 such warrants since the start of 2010 in nine counties with a total population of 13.6 million people, according to a tally by The Wall Street Journal of filings in those counties…
